It didn’t take long for Tricia Stonebraker of Anchorage to find the back of the net.
The junior midfielder for Loyola University Chicago scored her team’s first goal in the first game of the season in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over DePaul in the windy city.
Stonebraker, of Service High fame, converted a half volley in the first half for her fifth career goal.
“It was definitely really exciting to be able to take the lead early because our team often struggles to score,” she told me. “But we played really well.”
Stonebraker’s goal was set up by a crossing pass that she chested down and then blasted by a diving goalkeeper.
The season-opening win was the first for the program’s new coach, Barry Bambi, who is looking to get the Ramblers back on track after they went 13-23-4 over the last two years.
“We’ve trained so hard, so our confidence is high and hopefully the wins keep coming,” she said.
