Alaska soccer star Kelly Cobb has been invited to travel to Florida next week for an extended training camp with the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team.
The All-American forward out of Duke University will be among 24 players attending the two-week camp from July 15-30. Head coach Steve Swanson will use the training to evaluate his player pool to eventually pick a 21-player roster for the FIFA U20 World Cup.
Cobb, of Chugiak High fame, won’t be 100 percent healthy. She is returning from an ankle injury and hasn’t played competitively since May.
Cobb is one of the most skilled players in the country and already has National Team experience in 2011, 2010 and 2009. Last year she played with the U20s in Spain.
As a freshman last year at Duke, she started 22 of 26 games and ranked fourth in the ACC in scoring [31 points] and sixth in goals .
